Mike Mattes, the owner of Inland Auto, dedicates his time away from the auto repair shop to coaching local softball, as he has for many years. Mike coaches teams in the So Cal Select softball organization and Firecrackers, “America’s premier fastpitch organization.” Many of the players Mike coaches also play for Linfield Christian School in Temecula.
For Mike, coaching the 11 – 13 year-old girls is a great way to give back to the community, to make a difference, and to help kids develop their talents and realize their potential.
Excellence and Commitment at Work and at Play
Just as Inland Auto understands that its mission is to provide expert, reliable, trustworthy auto repair in a way that no other Toyota and Lexus dealer alternative can, the teams that Mike coaches are in leagues that teach more than just the fundamentals of softball.
So Cal Select, an ASA-USA Jr. Olympic fast-pitch travel softball organization based in Murrieta, is a non-profit league built by volunteers that work with the young athletes to prepare for competition at the highest levels. Part of So Cal Select’s aim is to create a “competitive and positive environment in which players have collegiate exposure allowing each player to develop into the best student athlete she can be.”
Firecrackers is a nation-wide organization. Its mission is “to provide a level of training to players that ensures the highest level of social and athletic development and growth.” Embedded in the Firecrackers approach is an ideal that connects to Mike’s commitment to community and to excellence, namely that the Firecrackers athletes “are striving to make the decisions that will provide [them] happiness for the rest of [their] life.”
Bringing the Community In
Mike is proud of the time he has dedicated to working with and coaching kids in the community and is excited to share news about the teams with local Murrieta auto repair customers. At Inland Auto, you will find team photos displayed on our walls and Mike is always happy to share good news about the teams.
Taking Service Out into the Community
Working in the community as a coach is a way of providing another kind of service for the auto repair shop owner. Mike’s work as a coach shows how a local business owner can really contribute to and make a difference in the community and we are proud that he chooses to do so.
